Sentinel North Annual Meeting

Quebec city | 27-30 August, 2018

Sentinel North invites you to its second annual scientific meeting to be held August 27-30, 2018 at Château Laurier and the new Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury.

In a context of accelerating climate change and socio-economic development in Arctic and subarctic regions, we particularly encourage researchers, students, collaborators and national and international partners to join the 350+ Sentinel North participants from Université Laval to enrich the discussions and establish new collaborations to improve our understanding of the northern environment and its impact on human beings and their health.

Sentinel North welcomes any presentation that can contribute to a better understanding of the changes in the northern environment and their impacts on northern circumpolar residents and their health. The themes of the annual scientific meeting are closely related to the Sentinel North transdisciplinary research program, as outlined by its conceptual framework. These include, but are not limited to:

  • The complex systems and networks of the North;
  • The impact of climate change on ecosystems, ecosystem services and northern infrastructure;
  • Innovation in optics-photonics for monitoring extreme environments;
  • The impact of light on northern ecosystems and societies;
  • Microbiomes as sentinels for the environment and health in the North;
  • Research in data management and predictive modeling; and
  • Optimizing knowledge transfer in a context of sustainable development and health in the North.

In a transdisciplinarity effort, contributions involving researchers from the fields of natural sciences and engineering, health science, and humanities and social sciences are encouraged.
