Sentinel North Scientific Meeting

Join us for the 2021 Sentinel North Scientific Meeting, where interdisciplinarity and innovation will pave the way towards new insights into the changing northern environment.

Registration

  • The registration deadline is November 1st, 2021.

  • Participation to the virtual event is free.

 

Call for abstracts

  • The submission deadline for oral, blitz or poster presentations is September 1st, 2021.  

  • For abstracts selected, people will receive confirmation no later than September 14. For oral and blitz presentations, they will need to submit their pre-recorded presentation by October 4. Instructions for the video will be sent with the confirmation email.  

  • Abstracts will be evaluated based on the relevance of the research to the Sentinel North community, the quality of the abstract submitted, and the originality of the work or results presented. Authors are encouraged to mention in their abstract if the work was part of an interdisciplinary collaboration.

PRESENTATION AWARDS

Awards of up to $1500 for oral presentations and $1000 for poster presentations will be offered to highlight the efforts of students and postdoctoral fellows.

Awards for oral presentations

Candidates whose abstract is selected for the oral presentations have a chance to win an award ranging from $125 to $1,500. All must submit their pre-recorded presentation by October 4, 2021, following the instructions they receive. 

The oral presentations will be evaluated by a selection committee using the criteria detailed below.

  • Introduction: contextualization of the project and presentation of the issue at hand, including its link to Sentinel North or a northern issue
  • Structure and content: objectives, hypotheses, methodology, results (if applicable), clarity of the content in general, conclusions, and impact (actual or expected)
  • Quality of the visual support: quality of the figures, tables, or animations used, and of the written language, sound, and overall recording of the oral presentation
  • Quality of the speaker: ability to popularize for a multidisciplinary audience, dynamism, appropriate flow, clarity, etc.
  • Mention, if applicable, of interdisciplinary collaboration related to the project or outcome

 

Awards for posters

Students and postdoctoral fellows participating in the Sentinel North Scientific Meeting poster competition have a chance to win an award ranging from $125 to $1,000.

Note: Candidates whose abstract is selected for the poster competition must submit their poster by October 4, 2021, following the instructions they receive.

All posters will undergo an initial evaluation by a selection committee using the criteria detailed below.

  • Structure and content: contextualization, hypothesis and objectives, methodology, presentation of the project or results, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Quality of the visual support: quality of the figures or images used and of the written language


The finalist posters will then be evaluated by a selection committee during a virtual discussion on Tuesday, November 2, using the criteria below.

  • Structure and content: contextualization, hypothesis and objectives, methodology, presentation of the project or results, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Quality of the visual support: quality of the figures or images used and of the written language
  • Quality of the speaker: ability to popularize for a multidisciplinary audience, mastery of the subject, and answers to questions
