Second Sentinel North annual meeting
The second Sentinel North annual meeting will take place on August 26-30, 2018 in Québec City. Over 500 participants are expected.
National and international collaborators and partners are encouraged to join the 300+ Sentinel North researchers and students to enrich discussions and establish new collaborations with regards to our program’s transdisciplinary research themes. These topics will be addressed during thematic sessions, poster sessions and workshops.
Conceptual Framework and Research Axes
In the face of accelerating climate change and socioeconomic development in the Arctic and sub-Arctic, the Sentinel North research program helps generate the knowledge needed to monitor and prepare for environmental changes at multiple levels—from microbes to ecosystems—using better technologies, predictive models, and intervention strategies oriented toward sustainable health and development.
Sentinel North Partnership Research Chairs Program
The Vice Rectorate of Research and Innovation (VRRCI) and the Sentinel North Steering Committee launch the Sentinel North Partnership Research Chairs Program.
This new program is aimed at recruiting new high-level faculty resources at Université Laval to consolidate and / or fulfill the institution's capacity in strategic research areas for Sentinel North.
Launch of the International Ph.D School: Shedding Light on Arctic Marine Ecosystem Services
Taking place on board the Canadian research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen deployed in Baffin Bay and the Fjords of Baffin Island, Nunavut (Canada), this second Sentinel North International PhD School is a unique opportunity to participate in an ocean research program focusing on the links between light, marine ecosystem services and health in the North.
Program Overview
HUMAN-ENVIRONMENT SYSTEM
Through their close interactions, humans and the environment in an arctic context form a distinct system that is at the heart of the Sentinel North research program.
New Sentinel North Research Chair
Université Laval is launching a new Research Chair funded by Sentinel North to analyze the relationship between Inuit and non-Inuit, and the transformations of this relationship over the last decades and years to come.
